WEEK 2: Monday 8th - Wednesday 10th May 2006

In complete contrast to the opening week of the season Week 2 saw rain claim four of the seven scheduled games. Bowlers provided the highlights of the week with Llandrillo College emphatically beat Ysgol Pen Y Bryn by 46 runs to remain as early First Division front runners. Andy Spillane took 4 College wickets for 21 but was outshone by Colin Bradley's 5 for 11 in reply. Aarmer Sarder had earlier retired after scoring 51 (off only 53 balls) of the College's 106-8.

Mochdre CC began their Division 2 season away at Caerhun and scored 104-6 in their 15overs, Russ Boswell top-scoring with 34 and J.Rylance claiming 3 Mochdre wickets for 22. Great bowling by Alun Evans soon had Caerhun struggling, his 4 wickets without conceding a run the major fact in Caerhun being bowled out for a meagre 41 runs.

Conwy Colts recorded a win by 7 wickets over Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry in their first Division 3 game of the season. Dan Davies top-scoring with 44runs for the Colts. Old Colwyn Village failed to raise a team for their Tom Barlow Cup First Round match with Conwy Celts, the Celts now face a derby match with Conwy Colts in Round 2.

WEEK 3: Monday 15th - Wednesday 17th May 2006

For the second successive week rain affected the Gilbert Emery Evening Cricket League with only three matches played. Division 3 was washed out and the only Division 2 game to survive was the match between Colwyn Bay Rugby Club and struggling Caerhun. Rugby Club batted first and scored 103-7, Ian Morris (25) and Steve Williams (22) the top batsmen. Robbie Hughes ensured a 41 run victory for the Rugby Club by taking 5 Caerhun wickets for only 6 runs!

Eric Shillcock (51 ret.) and Carl Barrett (26 not out) set up Rhos Fynach Taverners' Division 1 victory over Abergele CC despite the efforts of Rob Scott (2-16 off 4). Rhos Fynach scored 96-9 from their allocated overs before tight bowling by Andy Baker (4-2-4-3), Dave Owen (2-13) and Allan Jenkins (2-13) reduced Abergele to 55-8, Selwyn Morris top-scoring with 24 not out. Rhos Fynach won by 41 runs.

Rydal Penrhos played hosts to Ysgol Pen Y Bryn in the remaining fixture to beat the weather. Pen Y Bryn won the toss and elected to bat on a damp New Field track. Good bowling by Patrick Leach (2-17) and Rhys Williams (3-10) helped reduce Pen Y Bryn to 64-8, only the Spillane brothers, Andy (14) and Chris (13 not out), reaching double figures. Rydal Penrhos began steadily in reply before Ritchie Lewis took the first two wickets of his 3-14 in the fifth over of the match to give his team hope. Runs then proved hard to come by for the home team as Lewis, Andy Spillane (3-18) and Chris Spillane (2-7) bowled tightly, only Dave Watkins (16) and Duncan Watts (13) making any in-roads. 15 runs were needed for victory as the match entered the final over with Chris Rowley (2-25) bowling to Mike Leach (17). Leach quickly hit 14 runs before being adjudged LBW with the scores level, Rowley then clean bowled the final Rydal batsman with 3 balls remaining to ensure the match ended in a remarkable tie!

WEEK 4: Monday 22nd - Thursday 25th May 2006

The May rain continued into Week 4 of the Gilbert Emery Evening Cricket League with only three matches being played for the second week in succession. It was Division 2's turn to be washed out and the only Division 3 game to be played was between Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry and Robertsons. Robertsons batted first and scored 105-6 before claiming a sensational 78 run victory by taking all Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry wickets for a paltry total of 27. Conwy Celts were the beneficiaries as Old Colwyn Village failed to raise a team for their match. Please would any player wishing to join the Old Colwyn squad contact the League Secretary on cricket@dentith.plus.com.

Llandrillo College maintained their strong start to the season with a 4 wicket victory over much fancied Rydal Penrhos to remain top of the First Division. Rydal Penrhos posted a total of 80-8 before Neil Roberts' 34 runs ensured the College won with an over to spare. Llandudno CC cruised to a 5-0 victory over Ysgol Pen Y Bryn at Brackley Avenue as they look to keep up the pressure at the top of the table. Rowan Rosenthal's 24 was easily Pen Y Bryn's top-score as regular Llandudno bowlers Kev James (4-14), Andy Christian (2-17) and Carl Wedge (3-13) dismissed the school for only 53, the crucial stumpings of 12 year old Lloyd Jones and 13 year old Matt Bradburn causing much celebration in the Champions' camp. Sam Rimmington's 31 easing Llandudno to an 8 wicket victory despite being run out with only a single required.

WEEK 5: Tuesday 30th - Wednesday 31st May 2006

The sun finally shone as Week 5 of the Gilbert Emery Evening Cricket League saw a full fixture list played.

Llandudno CC suffered their first defeat in two seasons when they travelled away to Rydal Penrhos in Division 1. Batting first Rydal hit 125-7 thanks to Dave Watkins (51ret.) and Gareth van Hearden (33not out) despite good bowling by Phil Williams (4-17). Llandudno's batsmen were no match for Rydal's bowling led by Duncan Watts taking 3-9 and were left stranded on 79-8 at the end of their 15 overs. Ysgol Pen Y Bryn celebrated their first victory of 2006 with a 28 run win over Abergele CC at Pentre Mawr. They scored 136-4 in their allotted overs thanks to good batting from Jamie Wilkinson (40not out), Chris Spillane (32) and Mike McDonagh (26). Solid batting by Abergele's D.Moulson (41) and M.Hedge (35) was not enough as 11 year old Patrick Atkinson took a wicket in his first Evening League match to finish with 1-6.

Llanrwst CC played their first game of the season away at Caerhun and returned with a 13 run victory thanks to batsmen Alwyn Williams (22) and Trevor Williams (21).

Conwy Celts maintained their pursuit of the Division 3 title with a comprehensive 7 wicket win over nearest rivals Robertsons at Bodlondeb. Tight bowling by Natalie Heap (4overs for only 13 runs) and Hugh Kelly (2-2) restricted the away team before Catrin Evison's unbeaten 23 eased the Celts home. Good batting by Clifton Robinson (23not out) and Jack Thornton (15not out) followed by economical bowling by Jordan Kane 3-15 ensured a 5points to nil whitewash for Lex XI over Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry.

The annual John Hardman Sixes Competition is to be held at Conwy CC this Sunday (11th June), all our welcome to come along and enjoy the cricket. Refreshments are on sale with the first match starting at 10am.

WEEK 6: Monday 5th - Thursday 8th June 2006

The sun continued to shine as Week 6 of the Gilbert Emery Evening Cricket League saw the league tables begin to take shape as a full fixture list was played.

Llandrillo College, Rydal Penrhos and Llandudno CC all won to maintain their top positions in Division 1. Neil Roberts' 47 runs was the main reason behind Llandrillo College's 32 run victory over the Rhos Fynach Taverners. The College set a victory target of 115 but managed to restrict Rhos Fynach to 82-8 in reply, Eric Shillcock top scoring with 26. Rydal Penrhos had a field day away at Bryn Y Neuadd smashing 187-3 off their 15 overs, Patrick Leach (50ret.) and Duncan Watts (42n.o.) leading the way. Fabulous bowling by Dave Watkins (7 wickets for 7 runs off 3 overs!) helping to bowl out Bryn Y Neuadd for 87 ensuring a 100 run winning margin. In a close game at the Oval Llandudno scored 135-6, Steve Usher(41) and Sam Rimmington (26) top-scoring for the home team. In reply Abergele managed 120-5 to end losing by a 15 run margin, Rob Gibson-Jones (51ret.) and Selwyn Morris (40) hitting the majority of runs.

Llandudno also progressed into Round 2 of the Robertson Cup when Duncan Midgeley hit 5 sixes from an over and Steve Usher claimed an hat-trick to ensure victory over Ysgol Pen Y Bryn in a repeat of the 2005 final. Chris Rowley's 51retired the only highlight for Pen Y Bryn. Division 2 Colwyn Bay Rugby Club pulled off a shock 1 wicket win over First Division Abergele to put themselves into the semi-final draw.

Mochdre Colts remain top of Division 2 thanks to a 14 run victory over Colwyn Bay Police. James Hawley's 51(ret.) ensured a Colts total of 105-5 before David Dudley took 2 Police wickets for only 9 runs in his 4 overs to restrict them to 91-4, S.Robins scoring 35n.o. The closest match of the week was at Gwydir Park where Llanrwst hosted Mochdre. A top score of 42 by Llanrwst's Trevor Williams proved crucial as the home team held on to win by a meagre 2 runs.

Jordan Kane once again stood out for Lex as they won at Conwy Colts but the Colts did record a Tom Barlow Cup victory in their derby against Conwy Celts. Unfortunately Old Colwyn Village were once again unable to raise a team and had to concede to Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry.

WEEK 7: Monday 12th - Wednesday 14th June 2006

Week 7 of the Gilbert Emery Evening Cricket League saw Lex XI beat Conwy Celts to draw level with them at the top of Division 3. Five batsmen impressed in the game, Jordan Kane (53retired), Clifton Robinson (41) and James Wigzell (39not out) for Lex XI and Conwy Celts' Derek McFee (41not out) and Hugh Kelly (37 off 23 balls) but it was Lex who ran out winners by 21 runs.

Caerhun finally managed to win a Division 2 match with a 10 run victory over Colwyn Bay Police at St. David's College. Batting first, Caerhun totalled 79-5 before arresting the Police reply at 69-9. Colwyn Bay Rugby Club scored an impressive 137-4 in their match at Mochdre CC thanks to solid batting by Andy Williams-Owen (51 ret) and Will Blackwell (32).  However, this total was not enough as Russ Boswell (48not out) and Phil Dickson (34) led  Mochdre CC to a 7 wicket victory to move into second place and round off a good week following their John Hardman Sixes win on Sunday.

Llandrillo College were without a fixture and could only watch as victories for Rydal Penrhos and Llandudno CC saw them fall from the top of Division 1. Rhos Fynach Taverners played host to Llandudno CC with Eric Shillcock turning in a Man of the Match performance for the home team. Llandudno CC opened the batting and scored 113-6, Shillcock the bowler taking  3-10. It was then the turn of Shillcock the batsmen whose retirement on 54, combined with good bowling by Andy Christian (3-10), that restricted the Rhos Fynach's reply to 102-8 and meant an 11 run victory to Llandudno.

Ysgol Pen Y Bryn recorded only their second win of the season in a tight match with Bryn Y Neuadd at Brackley Avenue. Batting first, Bryn Y Neuadd scored 108-7 with Paul Bourne (36not out) and Dilwyn Roberts (23) leading the way despite Ritchie Lewis taking 4 wickets for 19 and Rowan Rosenthal (1-12). Bryn Y Neuadd had the home side on the rack at 21-5 after only 4 overs, Paul Bourne (2-14) and Joe Carribine (2-29) bowling well. Dave Atkinson (25) and Tony Earley (47not out) batted brilliantly to secure a 4 wicket victory for Ysgol Pen Y Bryn with an over to spare.

Rydal Penrhos ominously moved to the top of the table with a 9 wicket win over Abergele CC. Abergele only managed 74-7 from their 15 overs and Rydal Penrhos (75-1) cruised to another victory.

Rydal Penrhos also progressed in the Robertson Cup with a comprehensive 7 wicket victory over Second Division Llanrwst CC. Llanrwst were dismissed for only 78 runs with Gareth van Hearden (35 not out) top-scoring for Rydal.

WEEK 8: Monday 19th - Wednesday 21st June 2006

Week 8 of the Gilbert Emery Evening Cricket League saw Rydal Penrhos, Llandudno CC and Llandrillo College continue with their winning ways at the top of the First Division and only 3 points separate the three teams.

Llandudno CC travelled to Bethesda to face Bryn Y Neuadd in what turned out to be a low-scoring affair. Bryn Y Neuadd batted first scoring only 75-3 (Paul Bourne 19not out; Steven Meek 16) thanks to tight bowling led by captain Kev James (1-14). Elgan Williams (34) top-scored for the 2005 Champions as they eased to a 5-wicket win, Paul Bourne (2-23) outstanding with ball as well as bat for the hosts.

A 6-wicket away win at Abergele CC was enough to keep Llandrillo College 3 points behind the leaders but having played fewer games. Graham Price (53ret) top-scored for Abergele as they hit 107-5 from their 120 balls despite tight bowling from Aamer Sarder (3-12). Mark Dowber (28), Kashaf Iqbal (22) and Wasim Ali (22) contributed well as Llandrillo College won by 6 wickets.

Dave Watkins (51ret) once again top-scored for league leaders Rydal Penrhos as they posted a total of 130-8 at home to Rhos Fynach Taverners, Andy Baker (3-29) their best bowler on the evening. The Rhos Fynach chase was led by Adam Shillcock's 47 but a lack of support and good bowling (Rhys Williams 2-24) saw them fall short by 17 runs at 113-5.

Mochdre CC hammered lowly Caerhun by a massive 110 runs to move to the top of Division 2. Batting first, Mochdre hit 176-5 thanks to Will Evans (52ret), Scott Davies (30) and an incredible 42 extras!! Caerhun were soon dismissed for only 66, Alan Sadler (3-31) and Russ Boswell (3-28) the leading wicket takers.

The Division 3 derby match between the Colts and Celts of Conwy was abandoned due to rain which gave Lex XI the chance to go clear at the top of the league. It was a chance that Lex grabbed with both hands as they hammered Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry by 52 runs at Abergele. Jordan Kane was once again the star performer for Lex scoring 50(retired) before taking 4 wickets for 15 runs, he was well supported by Chris Hardy (4-22).

The Cups provided two enthralling games that both went down to the wire. In the Robertson Cup league form was turned on it's head as Llandrillo College entertained the First Division's bottom club - Bryn Y Neuadd. Bryn Y Neuadd scored 104-9 from their 15 overs, fine bowling by Wasim Ali (4-10) helping restrict the visitors. Good batting by Mark Dowber (39) and Neil Roberts (22) left the college requiring 11 runs for victory from the final over of this Second Round tie. However, they scored only 6 runs losing 4 wickets in the process, including two run outs, as they chased victory. Bryn Y Neuadd took their place in the Semi-Finals with a 5 run triumph.

WEEK 9: Monday 26th -Thursday 29th June 2006

The rain returned during Week 9 of the Gilbert Emery Evening Cricket League. Division 1 saw over 500 runs scored in the two matches played as batsmen dominated once again. Llandrillo College pushed Llandudno CC all the way in their top of the table clash. Sam Rimmington's 52(ret.) was the top score in Llandudno's total of 142-8, the most wickets they have lost in a single match this season. Neil Bryan taking 3 Llandudno wickets for 27. Llandrillo College were soon in trouble, losing both openers in the first 2 overs and only scored 6 six runs off the first 4 overs! However Mark Dowber (45) and Anwar Awan (50 off 26 balls) turned the match around but the momentum was lost as Jack Rimmington (4-24) ensured the College needed 43 off the final 4 overs. Reigning champions Llandudno moved to the top of the table as they restricted the College reply to 132-9 to win by 10 runs.

An equally exciting match was played at Bodlondeb as Rhos Fynach Taverners played host to Ysgol Pen Y Bryn. Jamie Wilkinson (32) and Chris Spillane (34) were the top-scorers in the massive Pen Y Bryn total of 175-8, Rob Greenland (4-24) bowling well in damp conditions. The rain continued to fall as Ritchie Lewis (1-17 off 4) bowled a maiden opening over to leave the Taverners requiring 176 off only 112 balls. A combination of excellent batting (Adam Shillcock 51ret; Steve Lloyd 48), wayward bowling and poor fielding left the Rhos Fynach needing 8 to win off the final over. A dropped catch edged the game towards the home team as the Rhos Fynach Taverners won an enthralling match by 7 wickets. 351 runs were scored and all 11 wickets that fell were bowled!

The other Division 1 match between Abergele CC and Bryn Y Neuadd was washed out.

Division 2 proved to be disappointing as the Mochdre Colts v Colwyn Bay Rugby Club match was abandoned due to rain and Llanrwst CC claimed a win by default as Colwyn Bay Police failed to raise a team.

Robertsons dented the Division 3 promotion hopes of Conwy Celts with a 4 points to 2 victory at Brackley Avenue.

WEEK 10: Monday 3rd - Wednesday 5th July 2006

Thunder and lightning ensured the cancellation of three Week 10 matches as all three divisions remain tight at the top. Jordan Kane (53ret) hit his third 50 of the season for Lex XI as they extended their lead at the top of Division 3 with a 10 wicket victory over Robertsons. 14 year old Kane (3-18) also shone with the ball alongside Jack Thornton (2-5) to take Lex 5 points clear of second placed Conwy Celts.

Llandrillo College took advantage of the fact that the top two teams in Division 1 had free weeks as they claimed 9 points from their games. Firstly they travelled to Bethesda where Bryn Y Neuadd scored a 105-5 from their 120 balls, Paul Bourne (45n.o) and Marcel Le Comte (31) top-scoring. Steady batting by Neil Bryan (22), Wasim Ali (21n.o) and Aamer Sarder (21n.o) ensured the College passed their target for the loss of only 4 wickets, two of which were taken by Abdul Mahmood (2-16).

20 wickets fell in the Rhos Fynach Taverners v Llandrillo College match at Brackley Avenue. Llandrillo College batted first and were dismissed for 127, Dave Owen taking 3 wickets for 22 and Wasim Ali (34) and Aamer Sarder (44) top-scoring for the College. Rhos Fynach Taverners began well reaching 57-1 off the opening 4 overs, Graham Heath their main run scorer with 39. Llandrillo's bowlers finally broke through to swing the game back their way, Anwar Awan (3-18) and an Aamer Sarder hat-trick (4-13) taking the final 5 wickets for only 4 runs as the Rhos Fynach were bowled out for only 93 to take Llandrillo College 5 points ahead of their nearest rivals.

WEEK 11: Monday 10th - Wednesday 12th July 2006

LEX XI CROWNED DIVISION 3 CHAMPIONS

Congratulations are due at the end of Week 11 of the Gilberts Emery Evening Cricket League. Lex XI's 83 run victory over Conwy Colts ensured that they cannot be caught at the top of Division 3 and can now be crowned Champions and look forward to promotion. Jordan Kane was once again the Lex catalyst with both bat and ball, top-scoring with 32 runs before taking 3 wickets for 12. He was ably supported by Luke Regan (22 and 2-15), Nick Wrigglesworth (22), Matthew Robinson (21) and Jack Thornton (2 for 10) as the young side reached an unassailable 29 league points. Robertsons posted a 5 - 0 win when opponents Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry failed to raise a team.

Mochdre CC temporarily went 4 points clear at the top of Division 2 thanks to an 18 run victory in their derby clash with second placed Mochdre Colts. Batting first, Mochdre CC hit a season's best 180-7 from their 15 overs, Will Evans (54 ret) and Phil Dickson (47) leading the way with the Colts bowlers aiding their cause by bowling 39 extras!! James Hawley's 3-18 the exception. Hawley then led the way with the bat by hitting 51retired, supported by Wes Jones' 46 but the Colts ended on 162-2, 19 runs short of their target. Mochdre were joined level on points at the top following a dramatic game between Colwyn Bay Rugby Club and Llanrwst CC at Brackley Avenue. Llanrwst CC posted 108-8 from their 15 overs,   Alex Frew 27 and 29 Extras top-scoring! C. Booth claimed 4-33 with the ball from his overs. Colwyn Bay Rugby Club began steadily, Ian Morris (26), Steve Frost (29) and Andy Williams-Owen (22) all contributing but wickets kept falling at key moments. Alex Frew (3-11) starring with ball as well as bat. Victory was in sight for the Rugby Club as Dave Catherall came on to bowl the final over of the match and promptly claimed 2 wickets. Only 2 runs were needed from the final ball but only one wicket remained as tension filled the air. Unbelievably, Catherall took the last wicket to finish with figures of 3-14 as Llanrwst bowled out the Rugby Club for 107 runs. Their single run victory moved Llanrwst level with Mochdre CC at the top of the table. Caerhun once again failed to raise a team which gifted Colwyn Bay Police a 5point win.

Bryn Y Neuadd finally celebrated their first Division 1 victory of the season with an 8 wicket win over Rhos Fynach Taverners at Bethesda. Good batting by Dave Owen (37) and Rob Greenland (36) helped Rhos Fynach to a total of 112-7 before Jez Shea's 37not out ensured 4 points for the home team. Rydal Penrhos hit 170-5 as they aimed to narrow the gap at the top of the table in their match with leaders Llandrillo College. Dave Watkins scored his third 50 (51retired) of the season and was ably supported by father and son Mike (25) and Patrick Leach (27), J. Copes the best College bowler (2-10). Rydal then restricted Llandrillo to 86-7 to win by 84 runs and move into second place, 4 points behind Llandrillo College.

Unfortunately the League Secretary has received confirmation that OLD COLWYN VILLAGE have withdrawn from the league due to a lack of players. All of their results have been scrapped and the Division 3 table amended. We hope to welcome them back next season.

WEEK 12: Monday 17th - Thursday 20th July 2006

The sun shone and the runs flowed as the Gilbert Emery Evening Cricket League entered Week 12. Mochdre CC hit a record 215-5 against Colwyn Bay Rugby Club in their Division 2 match before bowling out their opponents for a paltry 36 to win by a massive 179 runs! An unprecedented three players retired after passing 50 runs - Scott Davies (55), Russ Boswell (54) and Will Evans (53). Mochdre remain top of the League in a three way battle for promotion.

Mochdre Colts continued their pursuit of the same promotion spot with an emphatic 78 run win over Colwyn Bay Police. The Colts batted first and hit 162-6 thanks to James Hawley's fourth half century of the season and solid batting by Wes Jones (41) and Ross Stevens (36). Dave Drury took 3 Colts wickets for 21 runs and was easily the Police's best bowler on the night. Paul Anderson (32) led the Police chase but they were halted by excellent bowling spells by Adam Jones (2-1-6-3) and James Hawley (4-0-9-0).

The much anticipated Division 1 clash between reigning champions Llandudno CC and 2004 champions Rydal Penrhos turned out to be an anti-climax when Rydal failed to raise a team which allowed their rivals to leapfrog them into second place behind leaders Llandrillo College. The College were able to beat bottom club Abergele CC by only 4 runs in a very close game played at Brackley Avenue to remain 5 points clear at the top but Llandudno have two games in hand. Llandrillo scored 139-4 in their innings with good batting from Anwar Awan (45), Mark Dowber (38not out) and Wasim Ali (38not out). Abergele required only 9 runs from the final over. Anwar Awan took the ball for this over, conceded a four, took two wickets, and with 5 needed off the last two balls, the penultimate ball was hammered to the boundary for veteran Alan Camsell to make a flying one-handed stop, and only one run was added. In attempting to run off the final ball, yet another wicket fell leaving Abergele short of their target to remain the only Division 1 team yet to register a victory in 2006.

Ysgol Pen Y Bryn batted first away at Bryn Y Neuadd in the other First Division match played and smashed their way to 174-6 thanks mainly to Jamie Wilkinson (51ret) and 17 year old Mike McDonagh (42). A fantastic opening bowling spell by Ritchie Lewis (4-12) never made a home victory likely but stubborn batting by Sion McGuiness (14) and Mark Davitt (20not out) ensured a single batting point. Bryn Y Neuadd ended up on 66-8 with 11 year old Tom Earley taking 2-15 on his debut for the Ysgol Pen Y Bryn senior team.

Robertson Cup holders Llandudno CC hosted Rhos Fynach Taverners in this season's quarter-final. Rhos Fynach batted well with the Lloyd brothers, Mike (55ret) and Steve (48 not out) excelling and leading them to a challenging total of 143-1. However, Llandudno did not wish to relinquish their grip on the trophy just yet and were led to a 6 wicket victory by Sam Rimmington (51ret) to set up a semi-final with Colwyn Bay Rugby Club.

At the time of writing the League Secretary had not received any Division 3 results and would like to remind team secretaries throughout the League the importance of sending result cards on time. There is a League Management Committee Meeting on Friday 28th July, 7pm at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club-all clubs are expected to send a representative.

WEEK 13: Monday 24th - Thursday 27th July 2006

Week 13 saw Llanrwst CC celebrate their return to the First Division by claiming the Division 2 title without having to bowl a ball as opponents Caerhun confirmed their own relegation by failing to raise a team for the match.

Second Division Mochdre CC pulled off the shock of the round in the Robertson Cup by claiming a 16 run victory over First Division Rydal Penrhos. Batting first, Mochdre posted a daunting total of 175-4 with important contributions from Russ Boswell (48), Gareth Coleman (34n.o), Dave Hawley (33) and Will Evans (32). Dan Wales (50ret) and Josh Leach (51ret) led the Rydal Penrhos chase but Mochdre restricted them to 159-5 to progress to a semi-final with Bryn Y Neuadd.

Division 1 title holders Llandudno CC faced two home games this week as they aimed to catch Llandrillo College at the top of the league. Firstly they hosted Ysgol Pen Y Bryn who were put into bat and hit 143-2 thanks to strong batting by Jamie Wilkinson (54ret), Chris Spillane (47n.o) and Mike McDonagh (25), first teamers Jack Rimmington and Kev James taking a wicket apiece. Llandudno lost early wickets to Andy Spillane (2-36) but Duncan Midgeley (51ret), Kev James (42n.o) and Jack Rimmington (23n.o) ensured a 6 wicket win with an over to spare. Llandudno batted first the following night at home to Bryn Y Neuadd with Steve Usher (51ret), Carl Wedge (38) and Jon Gallagher (33) smashing their way to 185-6. Bryn Y Neuadd prodded their way to 74-6 (Abdul Mahmood 27) as they claimed a batting point in defeat. Jack Rimmington (3-27) and Andy Christian (3-25) sharing the wickets as Llandudno CC won by 111 runs.

Llandudno's two wins meant Llandrillo College had to win their final match of the season, against Ysgol Pen Y Bryn, to have a chance to claim their first league title since 2001. The College elected to bat first but a combination of excellent bowling by Ritchie Lewis (4-0-6-2), Andy Spillane (4-1-12-4) and Rowan Rosenthal (3-38) and the slow outfield left Llandrillo on 99-9 at the conclusion of their innings, only Wasim Ali (39) troubling the scorers. However, Ysgol Pen Y Bryn struggled to get going and lost wickets regularly 3 to run outs! Only Jamie Wilkinson (20) and Dave Atkinson (17) showed signs of scoring fast enough to win but good team fielding and excellent bowling by Wasim Ali (4-0-13-1), Anwar Awan (4-0-26-2) and Dave McIntyre (3-1-12-2) ensured Llandrillo College a 10 run victory that keeps them a point clear at the top of Division 1 but with Llandudno having a game left to play.

Abergele CC were finally celebrating their first win of the season as they fight relegation. Home team Rhos Fynach Taverners scored 118-7 from their 15 overs, Steve Lloyd top-scoring with 54 (ret.) and Ed Rooney (4-0-13-2) easily the best bowler. Martin Hedge (32n.o.) batted well as Abergele passed the required total for the loss of 5 wickets despite a fine bowling display by Rhos Fynach's Dave Owen (4-1-12-1). The Abergele celebrations were dampened when the League Secretary received a written complaint from the Rhos Fynach team claiming that Abergele fielded 3 unregistered players in the match and therefore breached Rule 8(b). The complaint was passed onto the League Management Committee who found Abergele guilty of the offence and awarded the match to Rhos Fynach Taverners by 5 points to nil pending appeal.

Week 14 results have been coming through and Rule 18(b) has never been used so frequently!  Abergele CC beat Llandudno CC by 43 runs at Pentre Mawr but the bonus point received is enough to crown Llandudno as Division 1 Champions for the second successive season by the narrowest of margins from Llandrillo College.

The fate of Abergele is in the balance as the Rydal Penrhos v Bryn Y Neuadd match was rained off which means Abergele and Bryn Y Neuadd finished joint bottom and must play-off against each other.

The other First Division match saw veteran Eddie Downes play his final Evening League game when Rhos Fynach Taverners played hi former club Ysgol Pen Y Bryn. Eddie opened the batting with his grandson Steve Lloyd (33 runs) as Rhos Fynach scored 108-9, Mike McDonagh taking 6-17 in his 4 overs. Downes tasted victory as his team kept the Pen Y Bryn score down to 75-8 (Dave Owen 4-20) for a 33 run win.

Mochdre CC ensured a runners-up spot in Division 2 thanks to a 7 wicket win over Colwyn Bay Police. The Police batted first scoring 93-4 (Chris Jones 32n.o. but Ben Ashworth (32) ensured a Mochdre victory.

Bodelwyddan-Tŷ Fry finally won their first match of the season in their last game!! Steve Moulton (55ret.) and  P. Roberts (4-1-20-5) the shining lights in their victory over Conwy Colts.

Holders Llandudno CC progressed to their second successive Robertson Cup Final with a 9 wicket win over Colwyn Bay Rugby Club. They were joined by Bryn Y Neuadd who beat Mochdre CC in an unprecedented Friday night match at Bethesda.

Mochdre Colts beat Robertsons by 7 wickets to progress to Monday's Tom Barlow Cup final against Lex XI at Mochdre CC.

Abandoned due to rain. Replayed at Llandudno CC on Wednesday 9th August.

It is with great sadness that I report on the unfortunate passing away of one of the League's younger players. 15 year old Chris Turnbull, who played alongside his father John for Caerhun, was tragically killed in a river incident near Capel Curig last August. Chris was a pupil of mine at Ysgol Pen Y Bryn before moving on to Eirias High School. I'm sure all involved with the League will join me in expressing our sincere sympathy to his family, friends and team mates.

On a much brighter note, another of our youngsters has had a magnificent season with the bat for his team, Lex XI. 14 year old Jordan Kane scored 289 runs, was only out twice and his batting average was an incredible 144.5!! Well done Jordan.
